Maybe he was thinking something like “It’s my right to know” and realized it was wrong of him ? I never knew what he was going to say, but I was pleased he stopped mid-sentence, getting her point. Clearly he’s uncomfortable, but he doesn’t push the issue.

Just say it Mulder!

His heart, maybe? That’s always been my guess. Or it’s his life, too….

Maybe he was thinking something like “It’s my right to know” and realized it was wrong of him ? I never knew what he was going to say, but I was pleased he stopped mid-sentence, getting her point. Clearly he’s uncomfortable, but he doesn’t push the issue.
